Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) USA will be hosting a Technology Empowerment Dedication Ceremony at the Pascagoula School District Family Interactive Center on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm to celebrate a $25,000 grant awarded from the Bacot/McCarty Foundation and the IP Casino Resort and Spa to fund the TeachUp! Program at the Pascagoula School District Family Interactive Center for the 2011-2012 year.

The $25,000 grant, given by IP Casino Resort and Spa and the Bacot/McCarty Foundation in support of Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) USA's TeachUp! Program for the 2010-2011 school year, will provide a TeachUp! Intern to the Family Interactive Center operated by the PascagoulaSchool District.  The TeachUp! Intern will be a year-long source of professional development and technology integration support in the center to empower young people and community members in the use of 21st century technology.

The Pascagoula School District Family Interactive Center is a unique learning environment that gives students and their families access to technology tools and resources at no cost. The Center aims to improve the digital literacy and technical skills of students and their families to empower them to succeed in a technology driven world. The Center houses a variety of resources to community members including two multimedia training rooms, computer labs, television and production studios, as well as science, math, technology, and engineering rooms. Since the opening of the Family Interactive Center in 2009, more than 43,000 community members have participated in events and benefited from the Center.

"We are excited about the new possibilities that our partnership with the Bacot/McCarty Foundation and continued partnership with the IP Casino Resort and Spa will bring to the TeachUp! Program," said Nuria Arias, Executive Director for DOT USA. "We are continually striving to bridge the digital divide and place the knowledge and tools for success in the hands of the community members we serve. Our partners make this dream a reality, and together we will continue to see endless opportunities for our youth and community members here in Mississippi."

The Digital Opportunity Trust TeachUp! Program first partnered with IP Casino Resort and Spa in the fall of 2009. Two technology Interns were placed in the casino to work with the I.T. department. The Interns quickly made an impact and were able to not only assist with ongoing projects, but also develop and manage projects of their own. In 2010, IP Casino Resort and Spa sponsored two additional TeachUp! Interns to serve in the Gulfport School District where they spent the year helping to empower teachers in the use of 21st Century Technologies to create engaging, project-driven lessons for their students. The IP Casino has been extremely supportive of the TeachUp! Program and through its partnership has helped to equip Interns with valuable skills and hands-on experience in the field of technology.  Now through their support, the Bacot/McCarty Foundation has joined as a TeachUp! Partner to continue making an impact on MS Gulf Coast students and community members by increasing their opportunities to gain hands-on technology knowledge and apply it to their daily lives in order to help them succeed in an ever-advancing world of technology.
